Leading with Technology: Empowering Adult Education Leaders for the Future
​Leaders in adult education must embrace technology to stay relevant and effective in today’s rapidly evolving world. This interactive workshop will guide participants through key areas of modern leadership, focusing on enhancing professional presence, building powerful networks, creating collaborative work environments, leveraging social media, using AI tools, and fostering a mindset of continuous learning. Attendees will gain practical skills to strengthen their leadership roles while navigating the ever-changing world of technology. Strengthen Professional Digital Presence: Learn how to build and maintain a professional online profile, develop personal branding, and use digital tools to enhance your visibility. Build and Expand Networks Virtually: Understand how to effectively network using digital platforms, create collaborative workspaces, and maintain professional relationships in a digital-first world. Leverage Social Media for Influence: Explore how to use social media platforms for thought leadership, share valuable content, and build authentic connections that extend your influence in education. Utilize AI Tools for Productivity: Discover AI tools that can streamline communication, content creation, and time management, and explore the ethical considerations of using AI in education. ​Not Bob Ross’s Canvas (asynchronous/distance learning with Canvas)
​This session will cover using Canvas for Teachers, a free LMS (Learning Management System) to set up asynchronous and distance learning classes at no cost to instructor or students. After a brief overview of Canvas capabilities and potential uses, the course will turn towards creating a free Canvas account and setting up a basic Canvas shell (class), with the goal of participants leaving the session with a simple, yet fully functional shell and working knowledge of how to further modify shells to their needs. Prior experience with Canvas a plus, but session assumes zero familiarity with Canvas or any other LMS. Participants should bring a laptop and will need access to email throughout the session.

• Basics of creating and organizing the shell
• Setting user preferences, notifications, and layout
• Tailoring the navigation menu
• Creating and organizing modules and pages
• Integrating 3rd party applications like Zoom, Microsoft Office, Google Docs and others
Creating Content:
• Importing preexisting materials and resources into a format usable within Canvas
• Embedding and linking to exterior content
• Setting up student and instructor audio/visual recording
• Exploring and creating a variety of assignment types and quizzes
• Creating assignment deadlines, prerequisites, and scheduling events
• Going live and inviting students
General Tips
• Converting existing content and resources for use in Canvas
• Bulk uploading content
• Discuss the limitations and cons of Canvas – what doesn’t work well

Tabe 13/14 & TABE CLAS-E C/D
​Updates to TABE 13/14 and TABE CLAS-E Forms C/D will benefit programs with shorter new forms, shorter testing times alignment to the new ELP Standards (CLAS-E) meeting the needs of students preparing for today's workforce or preparing to learn English. The updates that both assessments have undergone are based directly on feedback from Teachers, Administrators and Students. Attendees will learn about the pending release of both TABE 13/14 and CLAS-E C/D and all changes that are associated to computer and paper testing processes.

​Implementing 'Stuff You Should Know' Workshops - 2024 Past President Grant Award
In 2024, Seward County Community College was awarded the $500 Past Presidents' Special Projects Grant. The 'Stuff You Should Know' Workshops have provided unique opportunities for ELA students to invite their family and friends to attend informational workshops on topics that are not regularly taught during ELA instruction. This presentation will summarize SCCC's efforts this past year to implement 3 SYSK workshops. The topics included: Mental health, voting, and taxes. Information from follow-up interviews with participants will be presented as part of a full-circle review of how the workshops were implemented and lessons learned throughout the year.
7 Lessons Everyone Needs in Life
​There are seven lessons that each of us need in our lives. Do you know what they are or do you just go through the motions every day? This session will cover these seven lessons. This session will leave you with a feeling of maybe it is time to recognize how important our decisions are and how those very decisions impact others in our lives.

How did we get here? We're exhausted, burnt out, and looking at possible retirement or getting a new career. Have you thought about reframing your thoughts regarding your habits as a professional? Come and listen and you will leave with powerful habits of becoming a better, more well-balanced educator.
Helping Address Staff Shortages in Adult Education
This session will focus on the unique ways that Imagine Learning can support Adult Education programs by providing content, resources, and certified staff to accommodate each learner's unique needs. Examples include: GED Prep, TABE Prep, Math & ELA Acceleration and English Language Development.
​The Art of Instruction: Strategies for Deeper Learning
This session delves into how lesson plans act as flexible guides, not rigid limits, for instruction. Educators will explore their role as dynamic facilitators, focusing on strategies to actively engage students, inspire curiosity, and foster critical thinking. By moving beyond surface-level teaching, participants will learn how to bring curriculum to life through creative methods, real-world connections, and meaningful interactions, empowering learners to deeply understand and apply their knowledge in transformative ways.

AI for Adult Ed.
This interactive workshop will introduce instructors to several AI tools which they can use to create lessons in any area of adult education. Participants will need to bring their own computers, so they can practice with these tools firsthand.

Creation of Prerequisite classes for IELCE Pathways in ESL
​Traditional students are expected to complete certain essential requirements before starting a pathway. JCAE has worked to create prerequisite classes for CNA and CDL pathways to prepare ESL students for the college class they will participate in. The teacher supports students by instructing on study skills, test taking skills, vocabulary and more. The CDL prerequisite focuses on getting their permit. The CNA prerequisite is designed to help students get their BLS certification, which includes a written exam. JCAE's prerequisite classes have such a high success rate that the college is wanting to implement them into their current curriculum. Come learn how you can apply this strategy in your program!
Digital Literacy in Action in the ESL Classroom
Creating an effective digital literacy program for ESL students that have limited or no access to devices is a tremendous challenge. JCAE’s goal is to prepare students to be successful in the community and to be active, participating citizens. Learn how to start from basics, work towards more challenging tasks with a curriculum that is embedded into the classroom lessons and increase student's digital skills. All of this helps to make students more qualified and competitive for the job market. Come to see the creation, the implementation and all the fun tools used in JCAE ESL classrooms.
​Structures and Supports Now That Will Assist Students in Ultimately Obtaining and Retaining Quality Employment
Expand student horizons by structuring programming similar to employer environments as well as identifying and supporting roadblocks that adult education students bring to our classrooms. Adult students are trying to navigate barriers around mental health, executive functioning deficits and more. Learn about tools and partners that can support students. Learn how to build skills employers need in today’s workplace! AND, for programs that are outcomes funded, building staff mindset that supporting the ultimate goal to secure and retain employment is the key! This presentation has been accepted for COABE 2025 in Dallas.
Co-teaching Tech Math
I have been coteaching Technical Math with the math faculty for 7 years. Over this time we have developed a team teaching relationship and worked together to deliver the Technical Math curriculum in a way to help students better understand the material. Come hear an overview of what this looks like for us!
​Reading to Learn - Strategies for the Struggling Learner
​Adult education teachers come from diverse educational backgrounds and many without any training to teach reading skills. To help the struggling reader, teachers need to know what are the most important skills that will help learners make better scores across the academic subjects. We will preview several strategies of teaching academic reading that will help teachers provide learners with a better understanding of how to approach science, social studies and other academic subjects and will give learners a more organized way to approach learning course content. Active learning strategies presented in this session will help participants understand the transition from "learning to read to reading to learn “.
